Modern society is becoming increasingly dependent on cyber technology, which presents challenges in the field of cyber security. Cybersecurity refers to the ability to protect or defend cyberspace from attacks, which ensures the security and availability of information through the system. In this context, increasing importance is given to the aspects of securing the systems and information of maritime organizations, with a simultaneous emphasis on the development of knowledge and skills of experts dealing with solving challenges in the field of cyber security. The development and use of computer systems in shipping has greatly contributed to ship safety, better and faster transport. The automation of the maritime infrastructure made it possible to unload cargo in a few hours, which would once have taken several days. Since the maritime industry is considered a critical infrastructure because, due to globalization, shipping is necessary so that each country can acquire the resources it needs from another country, one should be aware of the risks that can occur and which can partially stop maritime traffic. One of the risks is the area of cybernetics, which if not maintained and if the staff managing it is not sufficiently educated, can cause great damage. The paper includes an overview of possible cyber risks with their consequences in the maritime industry at sea and on land, and shows four phases of response to a cyber attack. In the thesis, special emphasis is placed on the analysis of the role of cyberspace as a critical component of national security, a new domain of warfare and therefore its importance for modern navies.
